I’ve been learning Japanese for a number of years but I rarely get to hear myself actually speak the language. Recently I picked up a mic and decide to see how it sounds and well, it sounds like an American speaking Japanese. Practicing and practicing, I can’t get over this, and I doubt I ever will.
I see all these people who came to America and studied hard to learn the language. People take accent reduction courses to try and fit in better, and putting in only a fraction of the work they did to try and make their speech in a foreign language more natural gives me some additional newfound respect for them.
