Speaking Japanese Sure is Tough (Not Sarcastic)

I’ve been learning Japanese for a number of years but I rarely get to hear myself actually speak the language. Recently I picked up a mic and decide to see how it sounds and well, it sounds like an American speaking Japanese. Practicing and practicing, I can’t get over this, and I doubt I ever will.

I see all these people who came to America and studied hard to learn the language. People take accent reduction courses to try and fit in better, and putting in only a fraction of the work they did to try and make their speech in a foreign language more natural gives me some additional newfound respect for them.

  1. it’s easier to learn japanese for us turkish people. but anyway it’s hard in 1st words 2nd grammar. and you should learn all these kanji characters. but i think if you can handle your pronunciation, it’s not hard to learn.

  2. I’ve actually read a lot about how Turkish and Japanese are very similar, and that Turkey apparently has very good foreign relations with Japan.

If you could, I’d like you elaborate on it more.

And I’m still learning that kanji, to be certain. A never-ending battle it is.

  4. It’s part of the reason why I don’t try speaking it often (also because of the fact that I don’t know that much Japanese other than basic stuff). And when I do, I always find myself trying to “correct” how I say it. As if I knew proper references on what to do. :P

  5. I think playing Japanese VNs can help out with this. Or does that only apply to freaks like me who read the dialogues out loud, imitating the way the characters say it (and repeating them for a number of times so I can check if I got what they said right — hurray for dialogue logs!). I found it really helpful in improving how I speak Japanese, though of course it’s still far from sounding like a ‘native’ XD
