Fullmetal Alchemist – Fullmetal Alchemist

So with the new Fullmetal Alchemist anime set to air, people have been wondering what to call it. Some prefer “Fullmetal Alchemist 2” seeing as it’s the second anime, but it can seem inappropriate, seeing as this is a remake and not a sequel. Luckily, a recent commercial for the new FMA has given us the answer!

The preferred title is now Hagane no Renkinjutsushi – Fullmetal Alchemist.

“Wait a second!” you might be saying. “That just means the same thing! How is that different from the old title?!”

Ah, you see, what you’re supposed to do is say the JAPANESE name followed by the ENGLISH name!

This is totally easy to understand and will not be confusing at all!

So let us welcome our new show. We’ll call it “Hagaren – FMA” for short!

  1. What did they call Kanon (2006)? Also, if this standardized naming was around for the original there’d still be a conflict, lol…. can’t really depend on it. I’m going with Fullmetal Alchemist and if any more info is needed, Fullmetal Alchemist (2009) ^_^

  2. In this case you definitely use the year. But if these guys are trying to wap it up really hard, they’re not doing it hard enough. I suggest Terebi Animeshun Shiriizu Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Furu Metaru Arukemisto.

  3. Supposedly, when Animax Asia airs the show on its English-speaking networks, the English title will be Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood. However, the only place I can find the press release with this information is on ANN, and we all know how accurate that site is. :P

  4. This is the sort of thing that when I worked for Newtype USA (RIP) we had to be religiously careful about. It could be pretty infuriating. Every ridicuous title, every tilde, every ★ had to be just so.

My vote, of course, is Fullmetal Alchemist: Electric Boogaloo.
