delta had some issues where the first half of the show was almost wasted on live fights without, followed by almost purely serious episodes all the way until the ending which suddenly felt rushed. from a thematic perspective you might compare it to akb0048 and frontier, but i honestly can’t compare it to either of them just because the storytelling structure is so jarring.

The first half of Delta was passable, but the second half was awful. The script was inane, too much time was spent on meaningless fanservice characters and too little on the 3 members of the triangle. And the final battle was just a redo of Frontiers.
I get the feeling Kawamori has moved on from Macross and is just doing it now as a request for Big West.
