Welcome to the first entry in a series designed to help enterprising villains deal with the constant threat of giant robots. Their abilities are often unpredictable and logic-defying, and it may even seem that the mecha you’re facing is absolutely invincible.
It will never be an easy fight, but I’m here to show you that no giant robot is completely invincible. There is no guaranteed plan of attack, but what I will provide you is the foundation upon which you can formulate plans to eliminate them.
Keep in mind that this information is fairly extensive. For those villains who wish to remain surprised while viewing recordings of their heroic exploits, I advise you read with caution.
Gurren-Lagann is a robot fueled by an innate energy of the universe and human will, Spiral Energy, it has the ability to generate weaponry from seemingly nowhere, preferring to use drills. It also has the ability to combine with almost anything, increasing its power exponentially every time. Spiral Energy is, for all intents and purposes, an infinite energy source.
Gurren-Lagann, in its most basic form, is a combination of two robots, Gurren and Lagann. and the key to Gurren-Lagann is the Lagann half. A relic of a now-extinct galactic organization called the Spiral Knights, it is Lagann that possesses the ability to combine with others. The Gurren half is not anything special, but with Lagann attached it becomes a far more significant threat. And the key to Lagann itself is its pilot: Simon.
Gurren-Lagann’s power is directly linked to the emotional state of its pilot, and other than Simon, there exists few others with the ability to control Lagann. The problem is that Simon has an indomitable spirit, and will not bend easily to even the most dire of situations, particularly because he has the support of strong allies and friends. Simon is willing to sacrifice his own desires for the greater good, so your normal variety of ultimatums will be ineffective.
STEPS TO DEFEATING GURREN-LAGANN
If you wish to remove Gurren-Lagann completely from the scenario, you must separate Simon from Lagann and Lagann from anything else. Lagann possesses the ability to combine with almost anything, so any pile of scrap metal becomes a potential weapon.
Of course, preventing any combination sequence is easier said than done, and you may end up facing Gurren-Lagann in battle, be it in its normal form or its most powerful, the galaxy-sized Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. At that point, it may be impossible to stop it with brute force.
However, Spiral Energy, for all of its infinite might, comes with a drawback: Overuse of it will invoke the Spiral Nemesis, an unknown force supposedly so powerful that its appearance can mean the end of the universe. Simon, the main pilot, is aware of this threat, and is wary of abusing his Spiral Power.
Gurren-Lagann must be placed in a situation where in order to save the day, in order to achieve the greater good, Simon is forced to abuse his Spiral Power, or at least be made to think that way. It cannot be something Simon holds dear to his heart personally, but something that causes his sense of justice to contradict itself.
Even if Gurren-Lagann manages to win the current battle, the realization that he has overstepped his boundaries will leave him psychologically vulnerable and, as stated before, Simon’s mental state is the key to everything.
I must once more emphasize that this is not a perfect plan, as no such thing exists. Remember, though, that infinite power does not mean infinite chance of victory, and that the most important thing to keep in mind is that every weakness is potentially a strength and vice versa. This applies just as much to you as it does any hero.
